South Pass City (National Historic Landmark)
South Pass City, Wyoming

The 19th Century gold mining town known as South Pass City is located on the Oregon Trail at the southeastern end of the Wind River Mountains, 35 miles south of Lander, Wyoming.

This historic site is owned by the State of Wyoming and managed by the Wyoming Recreation Commission. The Collaborative completed an evaluation of the physical condition of 11 of the 32 remaining historic buildings at South Pass City. Necessary repairs were given priorities and the costs were estimated so the Wyoming Recreation Commission could develop a master plan for building stabilization and renovation. This is part of a larger project to identify the historical themes, analyze existing development, management, maintenance and interpretation programs, and to recommend projects to be completed at the site. Subsequently, preservation plans and specifications were completed and the construction was finished in the same year.
