| We have had the good fortune of working with the gems of historic government buildings, comprising of Courthouses, Customhouses, Post Offices, and now the Kansas State Capitol. These buildings often have fine exterior stone details, interior marbles, period lighting, ornate woodwork, and beautiful murals, frescos, and decorative painting. Work begins with the Historic Structures Report, following the Secretary of the Interiors guidelines. The buildings historic and architectural significance is evaluated, as well as the physical condition of the building, and appropriate rehabilitation plans for proposed changes. Continued work requires a balance between healthy adaptive reuse and preservation of original materials and systems. Preparations of plans that include code upgrade installations with minimum impact on the building is critical. |
